Gearing up for March for Meals

Meals on Wheels of Denton County participates in the national March for Meals campaign, which is an annual month-long event celebrated this year from Sunday, March 1, 2015, through Tuesday, March 31, 2015, and sponsored by the Meals On Wheels Association of America.

It is designed to generate public awareness about senior hunger and to celebrate the invaluable services provided by Senior Nutrition Programs across the country.  March for Meals is also intended to increase fundraising from local businesses and supporters, as well as help with recruiting new volunteers from our community.  To learn more, please visit www.marchformeals.com. As the date approaches well share more information on this site as well as our Meals on Wheels Denton County Facebook page.

Join the #GivingTuesday Movement

Have you heard of #GivingTuesday? It’s a day dedicated  to giving back to the community, in the middle of the busy holiday season. We know it can be all too easy to lose track of the giving spirit in the hustle and bustle of major shopping days like Black Friday and Cyber Monday, but this year take some time to give back.

On December 2nd, 2014 help spread awareness and join millions of others in the movement.  Span/Meals on Wheels will give back to the community, by helping other organizations with various community service projects leading up to the big day. We started our pledge by baking dozens of cookies for the elderly with Hearts for Homes, more things to come!

Not sure what you can do to give back? Think about becoming a volunteer driver for Meals on Wheels Denton County, or donating to help support our efforts to feed hungry seniors.

We invite everyone to share their #GivingTuesday stories on the Meals on Wheels Denton County Facebook page. For more ideas on what you can do to give back, watch the video linked below.  Learn more about the movement, by visiting www.givingday.org.

Thank you Primrose volunteers!

Volunteers at our newest site, Primrose at Sequoia Park in Denton, have a great congregate meal program up and running for Primrose residents Monday through Friday.  We appreciate the Primrose volunteers who have stepped up to make this site a success!

 Volunteers Needed

We continue to need volunteers in Denton, Little Elm and The Colony for meal delivery to home-bound clients.  If you or someone you know is interested in a great volunteer experience, let us know!
